Our hotel is situated in Marling, an idyllic village with 2,500 inhabitants really close to Meran. The activities that are most popular with guests at our hotel in Marling include hiking and cycling in the spring, summer and autumn. The surrounding mountains of Meran, the Hirzer hiking area, the Vigiljoch mountain recreational area and the countless Waalweg provide unique holiday adventures. The Marling Waalweg is the longest in the whole of South Tyrol with 12 km. The Waalweg that is close to our hotel in Marling was created as far back as 250 years ago – back then the Carthusian monks from Schnalstal Valley had the idea of obtaining the necessary water for their orchards via a ‘Waal’. From the Marling Waalweg you have a stunning view over the spa town of Meran; You can see as far as the Passeiertal and over the Texelgruppe mountains.
You also should not miss out on the castles and fortresses that are situated close to our hotel on your holiday in Marling! Schloss Lebenberg is just above Marling not far from our hotel, and is one of the largest fully furnished castles in South Tyrol. A medieval collection of weapons is exhibited in the uninhabited part of the castle every year from March to October. Reinhold Messner’s private Castel Schloss Juval which houses a permanent exhibition on alpinism and the world’s mountains is under half an hour away from your hotel. In addition, the castle from the counts of Tyrol and so-called Sisi castle, Trauttmansdorff Castle are also just a stone’s throw away from our hotel in Marling. You should definitely not miss out on the 12 hectare gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, especially in the spring – shrubs, flowers and trees from all over the world blossom and thrive in more than 80 landscaped gardens. Every summer, First-class musicians ensure a great atmosphere on the floating stage upon the lake of the gardens.
If the weather should not be at its best for once on your holiday in Marling then there are numerous museums and exhibitions that you can visit around our La Maiena Meran Resort. The fruit growing museum in Lana, the typewriter museum in Partschins or the South Tyrolean Archaeology museum in Bozen will not disappoint you. The latter houses Ötzi, the ice man, one of the most famous and important mummies in the world. Strolling under Meran’s arcades and a typical Italian ‘Aperitivo’ are also a must-have on your holiday in Marling – regardless of the weather!
