A little bit about us

Our Golf & Wellnesshotel has been in the family for generations. It was founded in 1964 by Franz Waldner as a restaurant, dance hall and winery.

In 1977, the Hotel opened, and under the direction of the family, Marlene and Hans with their children Elisabeth and Mathias, it passed new hotel milestones as la maiena.

How did this name come about? We have an amazing and unique view of Merano and we are very close to the resort town with Mediterranean flair. That's why we wanted our hotel name to have a little something to do with the city of Merano. So, we did our research with the help of a historian and a company specialising in hotels.

Merano has had many names: Maiense, Maia, Mais... and even today, various sections of the city have names with these roots: Obermais, Untermais, Maiense... And so our name "la maiena" crystalised, and we all agreed it was perfect.

The Waldner Family and the hotel team have a philosophy: to fulfill our guests' wishes through competence and friendliness. Today and in the future, our strength includes personalised care of our guests and the high quality and variety of our services.
